Drop Something

Drop Something...

A time is coming when we will be  ready to make progress as a people and as a nation of well-prepared and well illuminated goodly citizens to stop seeing office positions as God-given opportunities for exploitation.

And when that time comes, papers, letters and documents will reach their destinations in the same day. Appropriate replies will be received within the shortest delay possible.

In that day, the pockets of messengers, the clerks, as well as whatever collared officials, will no longer receive more corrupt, coerced subsidies to their salaries as perks.

In that day new investors will no longer have to wonder what extraordinary,  unofficial taxes and unmentioned levies, they will need to be consider to speed up a response from designated officials for projects to take off.

In that day the wonderful meaning of breakfast will not include the amount of money that will help officials to fatten their private bank accounts on account of the public.

Every one is looking forward to the time when to apply for a licence or a certificate to start a venture, will not involve scratching ones head in wonder about when exactly will Mr So and So be in his office, ‘take my call’ or ‘respond to my request’, without me first “dropping something”.

And in that day, when it is time to receive my payment for a job completed, I will not have to share my hard-earned sweat with any procurement officials, for supplying the very tools they need to for their own gains.

Will that season ever come?

Maybe one day, in the sweet by and by… But for now? It is “Drop something”, and get whatever you want!

Improve Your Business Performance

Tools guaranteed to improve your business performance!

You need to inrease your clientele?

The internet is a global market. In the Gambia there are lots of opportunities for businesses to harness the local market, let alone the global market.

Imagine that a group of tourists in the United States or UK wishes to book a GTSC bus and pay for a bus ticket to or from Dakar, Senegal. They would be able to do this if the GTSC operated an service like we are offering.

Or take a Music Concert for example. If you could sell your concert tickets without hassle online and your customers could print out their tickets and bring them to the programme, wouldn't that be great?

Or how about you wanted to conduct your own online tutorial classes from right in your home?

Or if you could set up your own delivery order services like we see these days. Wouldn't it be great for your customers to place their orders online?

Yet again how about people being able to view your cars and pick which of your cars they wish to rent and even make payments online? How about that?

Or let us say you were about to travel or move or completely change your equipment or stuff and wishes to auction things away. Think of how nice and orderly the bids could come in and be conducted with minimum hassle?

Perhaps you wish to create or access a directory of skilled labour at a glance. People like plumbers, painters, carpenters, electricians or mechanics at a moments notice? Wouldn't it be brilliant to be able to contact and book an appointment with one with a few clicks?

In Gambia we often complain about the lack of progress and business.  The reality though it that gradually but rapidly too more and more of the tools needed to stimulate business are within reach.

So right now in Gambia we can do all the above. And JUMP Software Services  is available to your business. Will you take advantage of the opportunities and accelerate your business?

All you have to do is to start today! Get in touch with Matt via WhatsApp Message on 002207207207.

Solve It

Solve It

Endless Problems for Solving

There are many unsolved problems that present our country with opportunities.

  1. Governance and Politics – no rotation
  2. High Prices and Low Salaries – endemic
  3. Small Market Economy – apathetic
  4. Education – Poor quality – embarrassing levels of ignorance
  5. Food Self Sufficiency – lip service
  6. Energy Production – Low use of solar power
  7. Security – Road, Personal and Natural – you’re on your own oh
  8. Health and Safety – Personal,  Maternal and Child – high risk of early death
Gambia no problem

In Gambia , as in nearly any other problem in Africa we know the solution. The issue rarely has to do with a lack of materials and resources to solve problems. The real problem with solving problems in our part of the world is the unwillingness of the critical majority of the people to actually want to solve the problems.

Our chosen posture of apathy towards our problems is the real problem.

The Prosperity of Poverty

There is something I call, the Prosperity of Poverty. This is where Poverty is perceived as a means to wealth. Poverty has become a product all by itself.

When resolving a problem will appear to make you really poorer than you would be without solving it, no leader will seek to change or develop.

Inviting trouble

To embark on any attempt to solve problems on a personal level in an atmosphere that is fundamentally averse to innovation, and development ideas is like inviting trouble into your life

Most people will not take too kindly to anyone who they believe is taking away their livelihood. Indeed when you declare war against the problem of poverty in a country where a lot of people earn a living from begging and handouts, you are stepping on toes.

And begging is not limited to the filthy, ragged, unhealthy-looking, fly-ridden people standing at traffic lights and outside the shops.

Any official who believes and accepts that Gambia is one of the poorest countries in the world is positioned to expect grants, loans, assistance, funding and pity from the International Community.

Large-scale pity combined with relatively large-scale handouts with minimal work lead to corruption.

You cannot come to this place and begin to talk about real projects creating  employment and hard work, self-reliance and self- development, without facing opposition to your projects.

The art of looking busy

Knowing precisely when and where to stop is very important in our survival culture. Just like a symbiotic parasite, we must not totally destroy our host. We keep the supplier strong enough to keep on giving but too weak to abandon us.

We must appear to be doing our best but in reality we are swamped with laziness and unproductivity. We do not value time as money and we have no sense of commitment to a national collective development objective. We must appear to look like we are complying with international standards. We have all the jargons, all the reports and speeches to project that we are on target. But in reality, we must ask if its all a scam, sham and show.

One and one is two

The solution to a problem is to first look for the problem, look at the problem, look into it and then acknowledge it’s existence.

Next ask whether you really want to solve it. Really in all sincerity?

If the problem remains then it is not likely that you have the will power to get it resolved.

The mark of true leaders is they make things happen.

If I cannot make things happen, then it is more likely than not that I am NOT a leader. There is nothing to resolve not being a leader of anything.

AS long as you CALL YOURSELF Leader, you have to go look for a bull to take by the horns.

In The Gambia, for example, we have to acknowledge that the leaders love the darkness rather than the light. If we didn’t, we would have harnessed the power of the Sunlight that we receive in this place, 365 days of every single year. We would have made Electricity a compulsory human right for every single citizen of this country. Each home and every single home in the Gambia would have been equipped with Solar power. The cost of Electricity would not have been increased by 37%!!!!!!

Today electricity is a privilege and not a right. For us in Gambia electricity has become not a necessity but a  luxury.

And for this we all have to congratulate ourselves.

Of course we know the solution. However, we love it in this swamp. The glorious mud of the pig is a delight to us all!

“We revel in poverty, in regression and in sickness. These are our national treasures by which we are internationally defined year in year out and we are proud of it!”

Irony Likely. Lost in Transit.

My Apologies to all proud, arrogant, bruised and wounded...

Roubia Edoh

Roubia Edoh
